The story so far

Built by one person, in the evenings.

No team, no funding, no roadmap meetings — just a small app I wanted to exist, built one word at a time.

The idea

Every vocab app made me sign up first

I wanted a daily word habit without handing over an account, seeing ads, or losing the Hindi meaning that actually helps a word stick. Nothing quite fit, so I started sketching my own.

First build

Evenings, weekends, and a lot of trial and error

Built solo in React Native — no designer, no team, just figuring out what "calm" actually means for an app: no streak-shaming, no push nagging, retries that are always free.

July 2026

Word Sprout goes live

Launched on the App Store — free, no accounts, no ads, with Hindi meanings built in from day one instead of bolted on as an afterthought.

August 2026

A proper accessibility pass

Full VoiceOver support, Dynamic Type, Reduced Motion, real color contrast — not retrofitted after launch, just finished properly and declared honestly in the App Store's own accessibility section.

Growing the word list

This website, and everything on it

wordsproutapp.com, the free word glossary, the daily quiz — all built the same way as the app: no accounts, no tracking, nothing collected.

What's next

More words, more languages — same promise

More word packs and more language support are on the way. What isn't changing: no accounts, no ads, no tracking. That part was never up for negotiation.

Why it's built this way

I'm a solo, self-taught developer — Word Sprout doesn't have a growth team or an ad budget, and it isn't trying to maximize time-in-app. It's trying to be a small, genuinely useful daily habit: one word, one quiz, one small nudge toward a plant that grows a little more.

Every decision — the plant that actually grows with your streak, the Hindi translations, the accessibility work — came from wanting to use this myself and being a little tired of apps that treat attention as the product.
